Trade and Investment Opportunities

Trade

Namibia is a potential and strategic market to the Zimbabwean economy. There are market opportunities on Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs), Horticulture, Building and Construction Supplies in Namibia which can be explored through the use of the Zimbabwe and Namibia Preferential Trade Agreement signed in August 1992. The Agreement provides for duty free entry of goods with at least 25 percent local content. Trade can also be conducted under the SADC Protocol on Trade, which offers duty free-quota free market access between the two countries on above 99% of eligible products.

However, the current low volume of business between the two economies does not reflect the full potential of the two countries. The export basket is relatively small, dominated by electrical energy, agricultural equipment, building materials, sugar, pork, fish, chicken, clothing, leather products, tea, and pharmaceutical products amongst others.

The current subdued trade performance offers a great opportunity for the two countries to increase the volume of business.

The Embassy in Windhoek is there to assist companies by:

• Identifying potential suppliers for importers and buyers.
• Facilitating Zimbabwean exporters with relevant market intelligent that will ensure they understand and access the Namibia market.
• Facilitating Zimbabwe exhibitors at trade shows.
• Promoting Zimbabwe products and services at business events.
