What are consular services?
Consular service is the help and advice provided by the diplomatic agents of a country to citizens and non-citizens. The Embassy provides the following consular services:
- Application for birth certificates.
- Application/renewal/replacement of stolen passports.
- Issuing Temporary Travelling Documents (TTDs).
- Authentication of Zimbabwean documents.
- Issuing of repatriation clearance letter for the repatriation of deceased.
- Cancellation of passports.
- Information on Trade and Investments.
- Information on returning residents.
Any other information pertaining to developments in Zimbabwe.
Which days are passports/TTDs done at the Embassy?
All consular services are provided from Monday to Friday between 0830 to 1230 hours.
Is the Embassy open on Saturdays?
The Embassy is closed on weekends and public holidays for both Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Can I apply for an E-passport whilst in Namibia?
- The Embassy is yet to migrate to the E- Passport system.
- You can initiate your passport application process as has been the case over the years.
- Have fingerprints taken and documents authenticated.
- After this process you send the completed application forms yourself to your relatives in Zimbabwe for submission, processing and collection on your behalf.
Can I send someone to do the TTD/passport application on my behalf?
All document applications are done in person.
Can I get my passport application fingerprints at the police station?
Passport application fingerprints are only done at the Embassy.
Does the Embassy send my application on my behalf to Zimbabwe?
Applicants are responsible for sending the completed application forms to Zimbabwe to any Civil Registry office of choice.
Can I receive my e-passport through the Embassy?
When your e-passport is out in Zimbabwe, the person who collected it on your behalf will send it directly to you not through the Embassy.
What do I do when my passport is ready for collection in Zimbabwe?
If your passport is still valid and your new passport is ready you bring the old passport to the Embassy for cancellation, then you scan the cancelled page to whoever is going to collect the passport on your behalf to enable them to collect the new passport.
What are the requirements needed to apply for an E-passport?

- Uncertified copy of legal status (if available).

- Two passport size colour photos, size 3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background, no jewelry.
- Two authorizing letters one for submission and another one for collection to whoever is going to do the submission and collection on your behalf in Harare.

- Child’s computerized birth certificate plus uncertified copy.
- Child’s current passport plus uncertified copy.
- Either parent’s ID plus uncertified copy.
- Either parent’s computerized birth certificate plus uncertified copy.

Citizenship certificate (for citizens by registration).
Two passport size colour photos 3.5 x4.5cm, no jewelry, white background, dark clothes.
Two authorizing letters one for submission and one for collection if the applicant is not going to do the submission and collection themselves, authorizing their relative in Zimbabwe to apply and collect on their behalf.

What documents are needed for a child’s registration/birth certificate?

How does the Embassy assist someone who is arrested in Namibia?
Anyone who is arrested in Namibia is tried before the Namibian laws and the Embassy do not interfere with the Namibian justice system.
The Embassy, however, grants consular visits and help in all possible ways as may be requested by the inmate. Such assistance excludes financial support.
How do I obtain police clearance whilst in Namibia?
- You download the ZRP fingerprint form 137 on www.zrp.gov.zw
- Take your fingerprints forms to the nearest police station, and have your fingerprints taken.
- Send the forms to CID Headquarters in Harare.
- External police clearance costs USD75 dollars.
- The forms are filled in duplicate.
What are the requirements for immigrants rebate application/suspension of duty on Motor vehicle?
- Accepted returning resident stamp from immigration.
- Old and new passport.
- Motor vehicle export documents (including SAPRPCCO for SADC countries).
- Permits for at least the last 2 years.
- Pay slips for at least the last 2 years.
- Bank statements for the past 2 years.
- Offer letter of employment.
- Employment contract.
- Termination of contract – letter to employer and letter from employer.
- Zimbabwean proof of residence e.g ZESA bill, TELONE bill.
- Completed form 171 for the motor vehicle.
- Completed form 170 for the goods.
- VAT is payable at a rate of 15%.
- The immigrant should have owned the vehicle for at least 6 months prior.
- You can send required documents for preclearance on appropriate emails, ensuring the documents are in PDF format. e.g Plumtreeprivateimports@zimra.co.zw for plumtree Border Post.
What are the requirements for Correction of Errors?
- Fully completed BD22 form.
- National identity card.
- Birth certificate to be corrected.
- An affidavit explaining how the error occurred.
- Education certificates where applicable.
Can I apply for my children’s TTD/passport below 18 years based in Zimbabwe whilst in Namibia?
Yes you can, you visit the Embassy and ask for ‘Section 5’ ‘parental/legal guardian declaration’.
What are the requirements for “Section 5” Completion?
- The parent/legal guardian’s original birth certificate plus uncertified copy.
- The parent/legal guardian’s original ID plus uncertified copy.
- The parent/legal guardian’s passport plus uncertified copy.
- Two authorizing letters one for submission and one for collection authorizing whoever is going to do the submission and collection on your behalf. The letters should be stamped.

How can I correct an error in my passport?
An error in a passport can only be corrected by re-applying for a new passport.
Can I use a damaged or spoilt passport?
Once a passport is damaged or spoilt it is no longer acceptable, you need to re-apply for a new document?
If passport expired or lost, can I get the same passport number?
Every passport comes with a new passport number.

Can I apply for a Zimbabwean ID at the Embassy?
You can only apply for your ID at any Civil Registry office in Zimbabwe.
What are the requirements for applying for an ID?
- Computerized birth certificate.
- Father’s national identity card
- Mother’s national identity card i.e for children with single mothers.
- If both parents are deceased, death certificates should be provided.
- Passport if available.
- Names of the village head and Chief to establish village of origin.
How do I replace a lost ID?
- Police report clearly stating that you lost your ID.
- Computerized birth certificate.
- Passport (only applies to people living outside Zimbabwe)
How do I change my maiden surname to my marriage surname?
You need to change your national ID first at any Registrar’s Office in Zimbabwe.
What are the requirements?
- Computerized birth certificate.
- Current national identity card.
- Original Marriage certificate.
Can I apply for my lost birth certificate through the Embassy?
- You can request your relative in Zimbabwe to obtain it on your behalf.
- You write two authorizing letters, one for application and the other one for collection.
- The letters should be stamped at the Embassy and send together with the police report which clearly states that you had lost your birth certificate.
Can I apply for my non-marriage certificate through the Embassy?
Yes.

What are the requirements for foreign nationals to get married in Zimbabwe?
- Valid passports of bride and groom.
- Certificate of non-impediment from country of origin.
- Police clearance from country of origin.
- Immigration clearance in Zimbabwe.
- Fingerprint clearance in Zimbabwe.
- Divorce decree if divorced.
- Death certificate if widowed.
Does the Embassy assist with financial assistance for the repatriation of human remains back to Zimbabwe?
The Embassy currently does not offer any financial assistance for the repatriation of human remains back to Zimbabwe? Our nationals are strongly encouraged to have funeral polices.
What are the requirements for repatriation of mortal remains to Zimbabwe by road?
- Notice of death from hospital.
- Non-infectious diseases certificate – from hospital.
- Death certificate from – Ministry of Home affairs.
- Certificate of conveyance of Dead body/burial order – Ministry of Home Affairs.
- Embalming certificate – from funeral parlor.
- Export permit – from Ministry of Health.
- With the above documents and the deceased’s passport/national ID permission to import the remains will be granted into Zimbabwe at the port of entry.
- Repatriation clearance will be issued at the Embassy.

How do I renounce my Zimbabwean citizenship?
- Renunciation of Citizenship is done by the Registrar General’s office in Zimbabwe at the Citizenship’s office.
- Please note that this process is done in person and a Renunciation fee is charged.
What do I do if I’m unable to travel to Zimbabwe?
- You send your original Zimbabwean ID and Original passport to your relative in Zimbabwe who will take the two documents to the Citizenship office in Harare.
- You obtain a form which will be send to you to complete and after completing the form you send it back to Zimbabwe.
- You will receive a document confirming that you had renounced your citizenship,
- You bring the document to the Embassy for authentication before taking it to Home Affairs.
What strategy will be used to convert metal driver’s licence holders?
Drivers who are already in possession of a driver’s licence will be converted as per new codes as follows:
Are the drivers going to be re-tested?
In the conversion, drivers are not going back for actual road tests but rather, for upgrading of biometrics and medical tests, including ones on eyes, after every five years.
What happens after the expiry of the licence?
The applicant will be required to undergo a physical medical examination, including vision test, and upgrading of biometrics.
Zimbabwe is simply adopting SADC standards and is not doing this alone.
